AWCA
OUR HISTORY: Founded in 1927 by four American women married to Dutch men, the American Women’s Club of Amsterdam has a long tradition of helping American women feel at home in the Netherlands.
AFFILIATION: AWCA is a member of FAWCO, the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas. FAWCO is a worldwide, non-partisan organization that strives to bring together more than 17,000 women in 35 countries (including FAWCO Alumni USA) to inform them on matters of common interest and to work out their particular challenges of living abroad. MEETINGS: General Meetings are typically held the first Thursday of the month, September to June in the center of Amsterdam. We also have a range of monthly activities in our four geographic areas: Amsterdam, ’t Gooi, Haarlem, and Lakeland.
Full Membership shall be extended to women, residing in the Netherlands, who are citizens of the United States and/or are the partners of United States citizens.
Associate Membership shall be granted to women fluent in English who have had a recent tie with the American way of life and are residing in the Netherlands but do not meet the requirements of Full Membership. We accept ties such as:
- lived in the US
- relatives live in US
- person or spouse works for US company
- belonged to another American Women's Club

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Full Membership shall be extended to women, residing in the Netherlands, who are citizens of the United States and/or are the partners of United States citizens.
Associate Membership shall be granted to women fluent in English who have had a recent tie with the American way of life and are residing in the Netherlands but do not meet the requirements of Full Membership. We accept ties such as:
- lived in the US
- relatives live in US
- person or spouse works for US company
- belonged to another American Women's Club
All applications for Associate Membership must be endorsed by two Full Members. Upon the recommendation of the Membership Director and with two-thirds (2/3) approval of the Governing Board, an invitation for Associate Membership shall be extended.
MEMBERSHIP DUES
The AWCA Club Year runs from July 1 - June 30.
Renewing Members Only
Dues are payable July 1: € 90
(€ 45 for women who have been members for 20+ years)
Dues are the same for Full and Associate Members.
Renewing members whose dues are not received by September 30
may be dropped from the Membership roster.
Pro-rated dues are only available for New Members.

Dues for applications received before February 1: € 90
Pro-rated dues for New Member applications received after February 1: € 45 (This partial payment covers the period February 2 - June 30 only.)

GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS
For ease of travel and association, the club is divided into four geographical 'areas'. Once you become a member, you are assigned to an area based on your postal code, although you are free and encouraged to attend the events throughout all four geographical areas of the club. The geographical areas include (but are not limited to):

AREA REPRESENTATIVES
Each geographical area is managed by an Area Representative. This person is the focal point between the members and the board, and oversees the events in their area. Needless to say, they are busy people, but you may contact them by calling them Mon-Fri from 9:00-6:00 or sending them an email. Please refer to your Membership Directory or Tulip Talk for their home telephone numbers.
When calling on club business, please limit your calls to the hours of 9:00 - 6:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Please remember that all AWCA Board members and committee members are volunteers.

What is FAWCO?
The Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas is an international network of 76 clubs in 35 countries worldwide, with a combined membership of aproximately 18,000. As a member of the AWCA, you are not only connected to the hundreds of women in Amsterdam who are sharing in this overseas adventure, but to thousands of other women worldwide.
What does FAWCO do?
As a United Nations accredited non-governmental organization (NGO) with special consultative status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, FAWCO is particularly active in global issues such as:
- Education/Literacy
- Environment
- Health
- Specific Concerns for US Citizens
- Women’s and Children’s Rights

The FAWCO Foundation
The FAWCO Foundation is the philanthropic arm of FAWCO. Each spring, this amazing organization awards eight Education Awards plus six Development Grants.
The Education Awards are open to AWC members or their children, for amounts up to $5,000, in areas of arts, sciences, humanities, dual cultural, special challenges, and volunteerism, and the application deadline is in January each year.
The Development Grants, each for $3500, are as follows: AW Surrey Feed the World; the Effects of Violence; Critical Health Concerns; AWA of Vienna Hope for Education; A Place to Learn; Skills for Life; Around the Corner, A World Away; and Ending HIV/AIDS. The deadline for application is in January each year.
